Jason Bordujenko, AARNet
AARNet have done some cool work with Codian (now Tandberg) to customise an easy to use front-end to the bridge management platform. This software also enables port sharing, ie you can create a pool of ports to "share" without buying a massive central bridge.
New Zealand worked closely with AARNet to deploy the work in a trial in NZ. It's working really well.
- there is some significant work in the telepresence market, led by the vendors
- above 6-8Mb/s, standard VC codecs are not working so well
- Desktop (HD) conference products are becoming more common
- encoding and decoding is still heavy - as vendors optimise for small networks - not an NREN issue
