Determine Possibilities

  • Conduct analysis on how overseas organisations (similar in focus to the Service Provider) are making use of advanced networks, particularly in the areas of climate science, environmental modeling, remote monitoring, and sensor networks.===
  • Review what other relevant NZ organisations are doing with KAREN.
  • Compile a summary report and presentation, and publish on the Service Provider’s Intranet. April/May 2008
  • Identify Opportunities Run workshops with the Service Provider’s staff to identify potential uses of KAREN in existing and new research projects. This will use the findings of the above review. Ideas generated will be written up and assessed to identify any obstacles to implementation.
  • A wiki on the Service Provider’s Intranet will be used to facilitate feedback on workshop results, further analysis, and for the action plan step below.
    • Note: It is intended that these workshops be run jointly with Crop & Food Research. Aug 2008
  • Develop Action Plan-Consult with the Service Provider’s science and other staff to develop a set of actions to support identified opportunities and remove obstacles.
  • Integrate action plan into science and IT planning/ governance processes, including entering projects into the IT project register. Sept / Oct 2008
  • Establish Knowledge Sharing Systems to communicate opportunities and raise awareness Establish a community of practice for KAREN champions across NZ for collaboration and sharing of ideas.
  • Staff time to set up an online workspace for the Service Provider’s staff involved in KAREN related bids and projects.
  • Develop and deliver a set of presentations to staff on eResearch opportunities, methods and successes. Apr 2008 to Mar 2009
  • Provide Ongoing Support- Provide assistance to staff preparing KAREN related components of funding bids, training on KAREN/eResearch technologies, and integration of eResearch techniques into research projects. Sept 2008 to March 2009
