Dr Neil James formerly of Otago University, has been involved in the development of computer networking from the 1970s. He spoke, after a succinct history of IAM in New Zealand, on the Identity and Access Management Workshops undertaken by Professor James Dalziel of Macquarie University, Sydney. In the New Zealand context, the KAREN community were generally well informed about IAM issues. Similarly IT staff have a good understanding. However, CEOs were not generally as well informed. Oftern IAM is undertaken "under the Radar". There is a strong desire in the KAREN community to continue to work closely with Australia through the Australia Access Federation (AAF).

Dr Jenni Harrison, Policy Analyst from MoRST (Ministry of Research, Science and Technology), New Zealand spoke on Identity and Access Management in Research (IMAGER).
