Multicast on KAREN

Multicast software

The following software will support multicast streams

• VLC Player - Windows, Mac OS X, Linux (takes UDP address and multicast port number)
• Quicktime - Windows, Mac OS X (reads .sdp files containing the relevant multicast stream info)

Multicast capability tests

Use one of the following tools to test if you have multicast capability to your desktop.

• Internet2 Detective

Audio streams

The following are audio multi-cast sources reachable over KAREN

• Multicast test streams from the University of Southampton
  • Virgin Radio, 192 kbps, 233.3.18.66 UDP port 5004
  • Virgin Radio Classic Rock, 128 kbps, 233.3.18.68 UDP port 5004
