  • Convene champion group The project “kickoff” to discuss the expectations of the group, the goals of the project, and the project plan. 5/08
  • Visit other KAREN users The champion group will visit another CRI and a university (most likely Crop & Food Research and the *University of Auckland or Victoria University) to learn from their use of EVO and other KAREN-enabled eResearch tools 5/08
  • Plan trials The champion group will select which collaborative tools are most likely to be useful to the Service Provider’s researchers in the short term and plan for in-house trials of these. 6/08
  • Install and trial tools IT staff will install the selected tools and the champion group will trial them amongst themselves to become familiar with them and ensure that IT staff are similarly familiar prior to wider use. 7/08 to 8/08
  • Plan demonstration seminars and prepare materials The champion group will convene to plan the demonstration seminars and schedule these for the Service Provider’s KAREN-connected sites. 9/08
  • Conduct demonstration seminars Present seminars that include introductory material about KAREN and eResearch and then demonstrate the selected tools. 10/08
  • Install tools for researchers and provide support A wider group of researchers begin to use the tools and appreciate their usefulness. The champion group provides support and advice about use; IT staff provide technical support. 11/08 to 2/09
  • Convene focus groups for post-trial review Convene small group of researchers at each site to discuss their use of the tools and any lessons learnt that might facilitate broader use of KAREN throughout the Service Provider, including discussion of other tools that might be of use also, e.g., the Globus Toolkit. 3/09
  • Develop plan for further adoption Based on our experiences and researcher feedback, develop a plan to further foster adoption of KAREN-enabled capabilities within the Service Provider and with its collaborators. 3/09
