Really valuable overview of the EARNEST reports. Key takeaways:

• the NRENs need to be focussed on end-to-end performance, not just delivery to the campus
• content and services of increasing importance
• need to get IT within members working more with end-users to realise benefits of NRENs

Merryn Dunmill

Interesting to see the challenges of network latency - not just at the core but getting through all the various codecs and middle boxes. Music / the arts are a really good test of the quality of e2e performances.

She said that performance over KAREN wasn't so good - but the live demo had pretty low latency times! Not sure how we can get below speed of light latency!

Paul McGann

Telco provider really taking the lead in reducing its carbon emissions through network development. Also testing 100GE wavelenghts.

Ian Foster

Fantastic to see the ability to create services getting easier and easier. Shame Ian wasn;t able to demo this process. Surely there is still the challenge around data ownership and management?

Interesting to see Amazon Web Services as a potential science service hosting facility.
